Based on pure economics, nothing can compare with Bill Gates’ decision to buy the original computer operating system for $50,000 from a programmer, and then selling it to IBM. This platform was the beginning of Microsoft – and made Gates the richest man in the world.
Of course, Gates knew what he was doing, having virtually devoting his life to computers since high school, and even dropping out of Harvard because he needed more specialized computer classes.
But it takes a lot of guts to step out on a limb and bet every cent you own on something that is unproven and not a sure thing. But his gamble paid off, and he built that early success into the giant that Microsoft is today.
